Mom proud as daughter (unknowingly) follows footsteps
Amelia Scheetz now leads Student-Alumni Council, just as her mom, Krista Rowles Scheetz, did during her days at Ohio State. That they both connected with the same group was fortuitous.

When Student-Alumni Council President Amelia Scheetz arrived on the Columbus campus in the fall of 2020, it immediately felt like a homecoming. The Gahanna native is a proud fourth-generation Buckeye with alumni on both sides of her family. Still, Amelia was determined to forge her own path.
“At my previous university, there was really no student life. When I would visit friends at Ohio State, I realized I needed and wanted that — this is where I wanted to be,” Amelia says of her decision to make the leap from another school.
Despite the COVID-19 pandemic, Amelia was able to quickly get involved with several student organizations. One of those was Student-Alumni Council, which works to enhance students’ experiences and help them connect with alumni. For Amelia, an unexpected connection was to her own mother.
“I remember calling my mom after attending my first SAC info session and telling her about this amazing group I’d found. She was so excited!”
Krista Rowles Scheetz ’95 saw it as a genuine full-circle moment: She had led SAC during her college days.
“SAC was a place to really invest myself and connect with other students. It made me proud of where I was and has led to me being a very proud alumna,” Krista says. “That feeling of giving back and being invested in my community changed my entire perspective, and I’m thrilled that my daughter has the opportunity to make her own mark in the same ways.”
