A surgeon reshaping recovery after breast cancer

Dr. Roman Skoracki has dedicated his career to providing the best care possible for breast cancer patients—and it’s no exaggeration to say he’s a pioneer in his field.
As a professor and division chief of Reconstructive Oncologic Plastic Surgery, Skoracki specializes in reconstruction for cancer patients with a focus on microsurgery and the surgical treatment for lymphedema. He developed innovative techniques for treating and preventing symptoms of lymphedema by rerouting lymphatic channels, which have been adopted by other leading cancer hospitals, too.
Skoracki was named medical director of the Stefanie Spielman Comprehensive Breast Center at The Ohio State University Comprehensive Cancer Center - Arthur G. James Cancer Hospital and Richard J. Solove Research Institute (OSUCCC - James) in 2021.
“Dr. Skoracki is an incredibly caring and talented surgeon. He is passionate about quality of life for his patients, and it shows in his care approach,” his predecessor, Dr. William Farrar, said at the time.
In honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Dr. Skoracki shares all about breast reconstruction options, heading the Spielman Center and drawing inspiration from his patients.

Since the Stefanie Spielman Fund for Breast Cancer Research was founded in 1998, more than $26 million has been raised to support research, clinical trials and new technologies at the OSUCCC – James.
