Degree abbreviations explained
Ohio State Alumni Magazine includes degrees earned by alumni after their names. Grad years with no letters indicate bachelor’s degrees or, more rarely, associate degrees. Two of the same years usually indicate double majors. Advanced degrees are accompanied by abbreviations. Some of the most common:
MA, Master of Art
MS, Master of Science
DMA, Doctorate of Musical Arts
DRH, Honorary Doctorate Degree (abbreviation comes from “Doctorate-Honorary”)
DVM, Doctor of Veterinary Medicine
JD, Juris Doctor
LLM, Master of Laws (Moritz College of Law)
MArch, Master of Architecture
MACPR, Master of Applied Clinical and Preclinical Research
MBA, Master of Business Administration
MBOE, Master of Business Operational Excellence
MCRP, Master of City and Regional Planning
MD, Doctor of Medicine
MM, Master of Music
MPA, Master of Public Administration
MSC, Master of Sports Coaching
MSL, Master in the Study of Law
MSN, Master of Science in Nursing
MSPCOACH, Master of Sports Coaching
MSW, Master of Social Work
MTDA, Master of Translational Data Analytics
OD, Doctor of Optometry
